Off We Go
My dears, I've begun putting together the list of those who have said they'd like to participate. If you've written to me and don't see your name, panic not - I'm not quite finished yet.
If you've not already done so, you should read through the first chapter of the Almanac and decided if you're going to do a January project and if so, what it will be.
EZ proposes an Aran sweater. I've already got a gansey on the needles and a lot of other this-and-that in life generally, so I've decided my version of the January project will be a scarf using the patterns in EZ's sweater.
If you know what you'll be doing for January, tell us. And if you aren't doing January, remember - that's okay. Chime in when the month that inspires you rolls around.

I gave you a wonky address previously.

I had to order the book earlier this week and in theory will have it before the end of next week. Still, my hope is to make an aranheadband for cold days, using her patterns. Although, it is possible I might start a sweater for my son. I'm willing to just let stuff happen. My first goal is to read the January entry.
Well I was right, my kid knew where my copy was.
I am going to cast on for the aran with some slight modifications that make it a bit more me. More on that in my blog.
In my head there has been an adaptation of the Jan sweater for eons! What I like about the EZ one is it is NOT overloaded with every stitch possible, especially honeycomb, which for some reason I am simply not fond of.
So, it's almost at a point where pictures are worth taking!
Thanks again Franklin and Tricky !
Awesome idea guys
I'm waiting on the book to be delivered also- but I have the yarn perfect for an Aran project, that's half the battle!
The book arrived on my doorstep yesterday and I sat down to read the first chapter. I don't think I am quite ready to tackle a sweater--that is one of my challenges for 2006 but not in January.
I will probably either tackle a hat or a scarf. I have never done any type of cabling, so the scarf might be the easiest choice. I need to make a trip to the LYS before I get started. I have a scarf on the needles now that needs to get finished and I am ready to go.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone else's projects as we move through this.

Well, I thought I was off to a good start, but ripped it back. I went WAY overboard with simple plaits. Details on my blog... http://theladywyvern.blogspot.com
Does a cabled intarsia dog sweater count? If not, I'd better start a hat. So many projects, so few hands.

aside: this is the longest verification word I ever had, but at least it has sex in it: psexcqkl
I would think a dog sweater counts. I knit for my dogs all the time.
ooo, have to add a aran for them to the project list
I am so proud of myself, I started and FINISHED the ganomey hat in one weekend! Please take a minute to look at my photos, I dyed the wool locks, blended on the drumcarder and spun the yarn, plying it with grey. All Shetland.
I haven't decided what to do next, something larger I think!

When I saw your Almanac-Along, I thought to myself, "That, is one cool idea, but I have no time to add yet another project to the list so I will content myself with checking out the blog." Well, the other night in a fit over pattern instructions that *must be wrong*, because there is no way for the increases to fit into the number of rows called for in the pattern, I pulled out my copy of the Knitter's Almanac and read the first chapter. I will try my hand at knitting up the gauge swatch, aka, the hat.
EZ is so reassuring after struggling through a pattern that's not working out.
Ok, I'm going to see exactly HOW MUCH lopi I have stashed and then think a bit. I'm leaning toward doing EZ's aran as written, at 3.5 sts/inch. Hm. Hm. Hm.
